Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
come into his presence with singing!

Musical Life at SPC

Music at Swarthmore Presbyterian Church is rich and diverse. We believe that music should reflect, support, and reiterate the Word, with the lectionary and church day as its guide.

With this in mind, music for Sunday worship, including hymns, anthems, and the Psalter (which is sung or chanted), are carefully selected. All choirs have an opportunity to lead worship.

Special musical offerings include large works during Advent and Lent, and a Cantata by the youth often presented Christian Family Sunday in May. This year's Advent offering was Handel's Messiah (part I), presented in worship on Sunday, December 16. You can listen to it using the audio archives found on our Worship page. Our Lenten offering, Requiem, by John Rutter, was presented in worship Palm Sunday, March 16.  It, too, can be found in the audio archives.

The Cantata presented by our children's choirs on Christian Family Sunday, May 11, was a musical retelling of the Exodus story by Tom Long and Allen Pote titled "Are We There Yet?".
