During grades 6 - 8, the youth meet most Sunday evenings from 4:30 to 6:30 for fellowship. 6th and 7th Graders meet on Sunday mornings for church school.  Beginning in fall 2008 this will happen at 9:00 (at the same time as all other Christian education classes). During these three years the church recognizes that our middle schoolers are taking the first steps of passage away from their families and into their own lives. We celebrate the amazing creative power and potential of these young people, and work to create a safe haven to explore new ideas, new interest and new abilities.

Confirmation is offered during the 8th grade year. Schedule varies from year to year and is announced in the fall. This experience includes a Mission Emphasis Weekend, class retreat/lock-in and classroom study which covers topics as God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, scripture, polity, church history and prayer. The youth are paired with friends in faith. These opportunities are offered as young people prepare to make a public profession of faith.

Mission 2008:ASP in West Virginia

The 9 - 12th grade program blends action and contemplation in teaching young people faithful living. To prepare them for adulthood, they learn six basic skills:

  • Active listening
  • Negotiation
  • Assertion
  • Research/information management
  • Partnership
  • Leadership

Our high school youth meet most Sunday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 for fellowship. In the summer the youth have the opportunity to participate in a mission trip. This summer, we spent a week in West Virginia under the auspices of ASP.  For more on our experience, click on our newsletter above.
