Mission Trip to West Virginia

On Sunday, June 22, 6 high school youth and 4 adult chaperones from SPC departed for a week long mission trip in Brenton, West Virginia under the leadership of Rev. John Weicher.  Our work was done under the auspices of ASP (Appalachian Service Project). Travelers stayed with volunteers from other churches in an ASP housing center. During the day we split into two teams, working on (and under) trailer homes of local residents. One team repaired a bathroom, installed stairs, and made various other smaller repairs. The other team poured new footings and leveled a bowed kitchen floor. We hope that our efforts made the homes of our new friends both safer and more comfortable.

Our home away from home for the week

pouring cement - and proud of our chute design!

down time...in every sense of the term

Departure: Sunday, June 22

View from the park where we enjoyed a little R & R. Note the cool green tee shirts John had made for us!

Project #1   mixing cement for new footings

Digging holes for the footings - no small challenge with the trailer overhead eliminating the possibility of a shovel...

And we were never too tired for a few hands of cards ...
