Children's Ministry:
September through May
Little Lambs Little Lambs is the name we have given to our youngest church school class. A typical Sunday morning includes a welcoming time when most Little Lambs beeline for the playdoh at the activity table, a circle time where our storyteller presents the lesson, lots of lap-reading, often games or songs, a craft which helps take a reminder of our lesson home, and plenty of time to play. A snack is served. Child care continues through the 10:15 worship service in the same location.
Bible Quest Children come to class before worship this year! Bible Quest is an ecumenical curriculum published by Congregation Ministries and advocated by PCUSA. Weekly lessons follow the lectionary. Children are engaged in a variety of activities designed to facilitate understanding and response to the Bible story in ways that reach children with multiple learning styles. Through games, songs, storytelling, and of course, crafts, children engage in each lesson. A snack is served.
Faith Weaver1st & 2nd Grades, 9:00 - 9:50 Children come to class before worship this fall! Like our Bible Quest curriculum, Faith Weaver is a lectionary based program which reaches children of different learning styles through a variety of activities. In addition, children are challenged to use what they have learned on Sunday morning throughout the coming week. Thoughts for family discussions relative to our Sunday morning experience can even be found on on the faith weaver website Sunday School Lessons Curriculum with Adult and Children's Bible Lessons – Faith Weaver
God's Odyssey God's Odyssey is the name we have given to the rotation workshop curriculum now enjoyed by our older elementary children. Any parent knows that different children learn best in different ways. The 'workshop" concept enables them to do just that. In WWW.SPC they can interact with the lesson on a computer or through playing games. In Bedouin Players they retell the story through drama, litanies, role-playing, and puppetry. In Creation Station they have a chance to work in a variety of artistic mediums - creating murals, clay sculptures, and various other treasures. In Good Samaritan they develop themes of mission and outreach in the lesson, making cards, butterflies, cookies, and other small gifts that go to shut-ins, people celebrating special occasions, the Life Center, and more. These groups focus on the same lesson for several weeks at a time, revisiting it in a new workshop, or center, each week. For further information, please contact Nikki DeVault or John Weicher. |
