What do we do?
In the words of one participant:
"Our experience at Montreat was really amazing. The daily schedule was packed but included some free time. In the mornings, everyone would wake up, eat breakfast, and get ready to go to the morning Keynote. To get ready, everyone would get on their feet and dance to “energizers” – fast-paced songs with choreography designed to wake you up and animate your morning! After energizers, we sat down in the pews ready to listen to the Keynote, which was led by two adults and the large screen behind them. Then we were dismissed to go meet with our small groups. A small group is made up of about 30 other youth that you don’t know in the beginning of the week. By the end of the week, everyone is laughing and joking because you know them so well. We mostly discussed Keynotes or sermons. After lunch everyone had free time to go rockhopping, hiking, or just hang out. Sometimes we had recreation events, too. We then met with our small groups again and went to evening worship. The preacher was very good, but at times also very controversial, so his topics were well debated during Back Home Devotions. This was the time after worship (but before sleeping) where we walked back to our house and discussed the day’s events, including where we might have seen God or our opinion of worship that day. It’s hard to stay awake during Back Home Devotions (they run pretty late), but somehow we managed always to have very theological conversations. By the time John Weicher let us go to our bedrooms, our eyes were already closing. Every day at Montreat was long, but none of us wanted it to end."
